La Isla Mínima del Guadalquivir, in Seville (Andalusia), competes for the film La isla mínima (Alberto Rodríguez, 2014), in the south of Spain, where between labyrinths of marshes and rice fields the mouth of the Guadalquivir River becomes a living wasteland; and San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, in Bizkaia (Basque Country), competes for the TV series Game of Thrones (2016), an islet between cliffs located in the Bay of Biscay, on whose summit stands a small chapel of the 10th century, a unique and mysterious location that can only be accessed after climbing 241 steps.

After a first selection made by the different Film Commisssions that compose EUFCN - European Film Commission Network, eleven finalist locations compete for being the "Best European location in film and TV industries of the last 10 years", the prize is organized by Filming Europe to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the association and is being held for the first time this year.
